1982 First Muster
1982 Webb Brothers

OUR HISTORY

The first Gympie Muster, held in 1982 as a celebration of the Golden Guitar win by the Webb Brothers’, has grown to become one of Australia’s most recognised iconic fundraising events, returning more than $20 million to community groups and charities since inception. The Muster is proudly owned by the Apex Club of Gympie and its fundamental purpose has always remained the same – to raise funds for those in need in our communities. Over the years there have been more than 2500 performances including Australian country royalty Slim Dusty who has a camping area named in his honor.

OUR ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT

Gympie Music Muster was founded in 1982, long before people began to be concerned about climate change. Our festival founders, The Webb Brothers and their family have farmed this land for four generations. The festival began on a couple of paddocks on their property a bit further up the Mary River Valley.

Looking after the land, the livestock and the waters was critical to them then, and is just as important to us now.

Whilst we have moved into the Amamoor State Forest on Kabi Kabi country, we are all aware of the need to protect the environment and reduce our impact on it. In conjunction with our landlords (QLD National Parks / Dept of Natural resources) we’ve been exploring new ideas to lessen our toll on the park. As one of the few events allowed to take place in a wilderness park, it is essential that we all take an ecologically sound approach to the way we manage our festival. We expect our patrons to be sympathetic to this approach and to support our attempt to minimise our impact by:

  • Capturing all recyclable waste materials
  • Encouraging the use of recyclable or bio-degradable materials by all contractors at on site activities.
  • Employ practices which minimise waste
  • Be mindful and vigilant custodians of our glorious shared piece of Queensland country

We are situated in a National Park and we do provide receptacles for your waste, so we ask you to please take out what you bring in.

WHERE TO FIND THE MUSTER

The Gympie Music Muster site is in the Amamoor State Forest, approximately 40 kilometres south-west of Gympie. It is an easy 2-hour drive north of Brisbane, just 45 minutes from Noosa and a hop, skip and a jump from Heritage Listed Fraser Island and the beautiful beaches of Rainbow Beach.

The 20-minute forest drive from Amamoor is accessible for all vehicle types and includes some dirt road. Please look out for local koalas and other wildlife, Mary Valley is koala country and it’s breeding season in August, so koalas are on the move.

If you google search Amamoor, there’s lots of signage from the town out to the Muster site.
